We’ve been eyeing up this peak For a long long time Mapping every brook and border Making sure we’re equipped for the climb And I’ve been sizing up your step As I watched you from the sidelines Placing every foot in order Trying to get yourself fit for the climb And we were so confident, nonchalant, masters of time, We had eyes on the hills we would fearlessly climb We had dreams of great vistas we’d one day behold With the road still before us and miles to unfold And now we’re here And I ask, am I real enough? Do I have the stuff that makes mountaineers? Will I walk til my feet give up? Could I climb to the top, the wind raging in my ears? We’ve been staring up this cliff For a long long time Sketching every crooked corner To be sure we’re equipped for the climb And I’ve been sizing up your grip From the corner of my eye As you got every bolt and rope in order Hoping that you’ll be fit for the climb And we had such confidence, nonchalance, oceans of time, Every tool of the trade in your backpack and mine We shared dreams of wide vistas we’d one day behold When the road stretched before us with years to unfold And now we’re here And I ask, am I real enough? Do I have the stuff that makes mountaineers? Will I walk til my time is up? Could I climb to the top within a mere nineteen years? Now I ask, am I strong enough Do I have the toughness of mountaineers? Will I walk when the road is rough? Could I call it enough and kiss this hill “thank you for nineteen years”?

To walk where there is no path To breathe where there is no air To see where there is no light - This is Faith. To cry out in the silence, The silence of the night, And hearing no echo believe And believe again and again - This is Faith. To hold pebbles and see jewels To raise sticks and see forests To smile with weeping eyes - This is Faith. To say: “God, I believe” when others deny, “I hear” when there is no answer, “I see” though naught is seen - This is Faith. And the fierce love in the heart, The savage love that cries Hidden Thou art yet there! Veil Thy face and mute Thy tongue Yet I see and hear Thee, Love, Beat me down to the bare earth, Yet I rise and love Thee, Love! This is Faith.
